Ford Sues Navistar Over Power Stroke

Last week, Ford filed a lawsuit against Navistar, the maker of the Power Stroke diesel engines offered in the Super Duty pickups. The suit alleges non-compliance with warranty cost-sharing and "unjustifiably" raising prices on the new 6.4 Power Stroke offered in the '08 Super Duty models.

The suit also alleges that Navistar has threatened to cut off Ford's supply of engines if Ford does not pay the price the company is demanding.

Diesel Power's Take: Ford still has a bitter taste in its mouth from the headaches it had with the troublesome 6.0 Power Stroke. Considering its financial situation, it's not surprising it's trying to re-coup some of the costs it incurred with that engine. Considering the drama between these two companies over the past few years, it's not far-fetched that Ford may be seeking a new vendor for its diesel engines. With Cummins contractually obligated to Dodge, at least for a while longer, the next most logical candidate would be Caterpillar. How will this all play out? It's anybody's guess.

1. It's about time! Im afraid the 6.4 will even further complicate problems. Ford needs to use all electric injector actuation.
Is it true that toyota struck a deal with cat? There always a few years too late.

WHAT FORD NEED TO DO IS TO BRING BACK THE TRIED AND TRUE 7.3 LT 444C.I.D ENGINE BECAUSE GM&DODGE DIESEL ENGINES ARE BIGGER THAN THE NEW POWER STROKE 6.2LT, REMEMBER GUYS THE OLD SAYING IS THERE IS NO REPLACMENT FOR DISPLACMENTS, BY THE WAY WHO NEEDS TWIN TURBOS THATS JUST MORE THINGS TO GO WRONGE, OR IF FORD WANT TO REALLY OUT DO THEMSELVES BRING BACK THE KING OF THE HILL 460 C.I.D AND DESIGN IT INTO A DIESEL ENGINE 425H.P 800LBS OF TORQUE AND FORD WILL BE THE KING OFF THE HILL AGAIN

3. What Ford whould do is go with CAT or finded another True Diesel not a V8 gas motor converted into a diesel. When I was in japan for a few years all of there work trucks were Duramaxes and Cummins not one truck had a Power Stroke. Come on FORD get it together...........

5. Ford sells more powerstrokes than dodge & Chevy combined. you guys dont know crap. that should tell you somthing.. the only problems that are major with the 6.0 is the cheap ass headbolts navistar purchased... the guy who owned the company who made the headbolts has disappered. i would too. The powerstroke will stay with ford forever because it's like peanut butter and jelly, and its obvious that people buy the *** out of them. So before you get to smashing powerstroke always remember i'd rather be stroked than rammed, and A STROKE IS THE END OF THE HEARTBEAT!!!!

The troubles of Ford Motors are real(with a 12 Bil. $ loss in '06). According to media reports, Ford's CEO met with Toyota's chairman last week in Japan, in a sign that Alan Mulally may be looking to the Japanese rival for answers to the U.S. auto maker's problems. The M&A market rushed at the news and tried to the real meaning of this report. According to some analysts, the merger may make sense. It will put GM into a bigger challenge. Toyota needs a domestic partner in US to avoid backlash from GM and Ford’s collapsing sales in America. Ford’s problems can very well be answered by Toyota. Sooner or later Toyota and other foreign car manufacturers will be asked to play in level playing fields. The legacy tax that cripples Ford and GM will have to shared by the auto makers selling cars in the US.Toyota is looking at the scenario and is open to the scenario of acquiring Ford and making it a low profit center while Toyota keeps going on a rampage.

8. Seems to me that Ford is just trying to complicate things. There was never any excuse to come out with so many other sizes of diesel. Look at Dodge they had one tried and true and they stuck with it. Only after 15 plus years are they bringing out a second size diesel. Ford just complicates things to much.

9. Please read the Drudge Report's February 17th column about auto mergers breaking up. GM no longer owns Isuzu. There is possibly a new situation on the rise for Navistar's International Engine division. Some of this is speculation except for the rumour of "Red Square" (similar to Blue Diamond). Ford may be peeved that International Truck & Engine Corporation has been swooning GM to get rid of the Blue Diamond Venture and go to a possible "Red Square" venture. Ford had just as much to do with the 6.0 liter fiasco because Ford wanted an engine that lasts as long as the vehicles. Hence, Ford asked for a cheaper engine. I am speculating that International Engine put most of the Melrose Park resources to this 6.4 liter to swoon GM. Why? GM is in the military vehicle business. A couple of years ago, Navistar was talking about trying to get their V8 into the HUMMER because the Isuzu DuraMax was not powerful enough. Notice that International Engines have all been changed to MAXXFORCE rather than PowerStroke.

10. Another thing wrong with Ford is that Ford uses contract project managers. Think about it. Contracted project managers want to keep the paycheck coming in which would end when the contract is finished. Contract project managers do not have any pension or self-interest/investment in the well-being of Ford. Ergo, Ford and International have a bad relation that results in a less than desirable International V6 plant in Huntsville. Ford paid out in a lawsuit to International Engine after the V6 plant was built. Ford will run a vendor/supplier out of business without guilt. Ask anyone working for the automobile business in Detroit.

12. Please strokeon did that DMAX know you had it floored? Im sure he was not even paying any attention to you. It seems like a lot of B.S. seems how DMAX has more horse and torque than the 7.3 or your proven unreliable 6.0 which by the way FORD also found your early 6.0s so unreliable that they offered people a great trade price in for a newer 6.0. Maybe you should find that Dmax and ask him to race heads up. I own a dodge with a Cummins and still love ford but even a ford guy knows when to say when to a junk motor (6.0).

Hey all you duramax fans. if you want a truly "american" truck.... why are you driving a truck with a japanese engine? and the reason international engines are called MAXXFORCE instead of POWERSTROKE is because POWERSTROKE is FORD's name for the engine. the International engine is simply called the VT365, and the 7.3 was called the T444E

15. Strokeon here it is, 2004 Cummins 3500 Bully Dog Tripple Dog with Outlook, Water/Meth, S&B CAI, Hogs 5" Turbo Back, Edge Jammer Stage 3, ATS Stage 2 Auto now Im hoping for an Aurora 5000, but thats it for now.
