Acura TSX

Autoweek is reporting the first Honda diesel product in America could very well come from the company's upscale Acura division. Initial speculation was widespread that the Accord would be the first model to get a diesel engine for the U.S. market, but it's looking like it may be the Acura TSX.

This is a logical play for Acura, since the U.S.-market TSX is essentially the same as the Euro-spec Accord, allowing the company to sell the same model in both markets. Also, being a lower-volume model than the U.S.-spec Accord allows Honda to test-market diesels with less risk. If the diesel TSX is a hit with American consumers, expect the Accord to offer the engine soon thereafter, possibly for the 2010 model year.

Although it's probable that diesels will be offered in SUV models for both the Honda and Acura divisions, it's still somewhat unclear exactly what passenger car models will be offered with a diesel option. Although the Civic diesel is a hot-seller in Europe, it appears as though the Civic will be gas and hybrid-only for the time being.
