So what do you do when you are stuck in Las Vegas to LA traffic going 17mph?  You take a shortcut across the desert!  No, not really, but we did take project rust bucket out to a dry lake bed just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada and have some fun with it.

This last weekend we checked out the Mopars at the strip event in Las Vegas to see if there were going to be any cool diesel trucks in attendance.  There were, and we got to see 700, 800, and 1100 horsepower dyno runs from a few different vehicles.  On the way back, there was a series of accidents that backed up traffic for almost 150 miles.  After about an hour of sitting in traffic, we took off in search of something fun.  With diesels, having a good time doesn't always have to be sled pulling or drag racing, and with rising fuel costs, traveling to an event can sometimes break the piggy bank.  It's good to think outside the box, and we had a blast speeding around the dry lake and doing donuts in project rust bucket.  Oh and did we mention we still got 21.4mpg on the trip home?
