In 13,000-miles our 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee's 3.0L diesel engine has sucked in a lot of air. By the looks of it, a lot of that air has been dirty!
When we teamed up with Jeep to get the word out about this new engine we didn’t know what it would be like dealing with an all-new engine that nobody really knows anything about. Our local Jeep dealership didn’t know that you could get a diesel Grand Cherokee (maybe because you can’t get one in California!) and nobody had any performance products for the 3.0L Jeep.
We’re out to change all that, but before we change too much more, we wanted to give you a run down on what we’ve done so far.
Consider this your sneak peak into next month’s magazine:
Year: 2008
Make: Jeep
Model: Grand Cherokee Limited
Engine: 3.0L V-6 turbodiesel
Current Mileage: 13,000
Current modifications: 4-inch Super Lift kit 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud Terrains mounted on 17x8.5-inch Hutchinson Rock Monster Wheels. The Jeep also has an ARB Bull Bar, warn winch, Soltek LED off-road lights, and a full compliment of 4xGuard skid plates- including its Front Guard, Rear Guard, and Side Guards.
We've recently updated the suspension with a new set of Bilstein gas shocks up front and a set of Bilstein 7100 series reservoir shocks in the rear. While we were replacing the front shocks we also swapped in a set of higher rate (601 lb/in) front coil springs from the Jeep Commander to replace our stock (433 lb/in) springs that came with truck.
Up until now every modification we’ve done to the Jeep has made it work better off-road. In the coming months we’ll be installing aftermarket gauges, an exhaust system, and playing with some tires that are a little bit more fuel-economy biased. We’ll also schedule an appointment to get the Jeep dyno'd.
