This week, Nissan and Dodge announced a joint venture that will result in Chrysler LLC building future Titan pickups at its plant in Saltillo, Mexico for model year 2011. Production of the Dodge Ram will be transferred back to the U.S. This move allows Nissan to avoid strict new CAFE fuel economy regulations that would have killed off the Titan.

That got us thinking (dreaming?) about a Nissan with a Cummins diesel engine under the hood. While we doubt there will be a 3/4-ton Titan that's fitted with a 6.7L six-cylinder, it's not hard to imagine the 1/2-ton Titan getting either the Cummins 5.6L V-8 or 4.2L V-6.

So, would you be willing to buy a Nissan Titan with a diesel?

What about if you could get the same engine in a Dodge Ram 1500?

Would you buy American if given the choice?

3. I'll stick to the big three. As nice as the nissan and tundra are i wont buy one I have always grown up seein Fords Chevys and Dodges around our ranch and thats what I'll always buy

4. i think its a great idea i would love to have a diesel truck as long as its not a ford a toyota or Titan would be a great. having a diesel would be tough on the open market for the big 3.

5. Thats interesting but I don't know if I would buy it. I own a older toyota pickup and it's reliable and everything but the only pickup equipped with a cummins that I would buy would either be a dodge or a ford. The ideal setup to me would be to have 97' model ford f-250 with a cummins in it. If ford had put cummins engines in their pickups then I would have one already!

6. I have owned a Ford F-150 and a Chev silverado. Neither one of them can compare to the Titan i own now, The Titan has more HP, more Torque, more towing capacity, and the fit and finish of the truck is a 100 times better then any of the big three, for all you big three fans wake up, they stop building good cars and trucks in the 70's. Me for one I cant wait for the diesel to come out, I will have one in my driveway.

7. The problem is that many of you are saying "Only real American's buy American". However if you are buying a GM, Ford or Dodge truck you really are not buying American. You are only buying the American Name. I am an insurance Claims Adjuster. I tell the insurance companies how much it will cost to fix a car. I also have programs that will tell me where that specific car was built. Over 95% of the "BIG 3" are built in Canada and Mexico. So how is that "Buying American"?. Nissan Trucks and Toyota Trucks are built in the US. Even though the name is Japanees, they employe more American Workers than the "Big 3" to build their trucks. So really when you buy one of the "Big 3" Really you are just paying for a name and not supporting things built in America by American people!

Look..today the Toyotas are becoming american made and the Tundras are made in America but i would never in my life buy a Nissan Titan Diesel but i to like Dodges alot i have a '94 Dodge Cummins 12 valve chasis cab with 450,000 miles and runs great but its the Nissans body i dont like because it reminds me to much of Nissan i hate Nissans. But i dont hate foreign vehicles i have 2 85 Toyota straight axles and they make great muddin vehichles not to menchin my Suzuki Samuria that has 200,000 miles and runs great all the Yotas and Suzukis i have, have got over 200,000 miles on them thats because the real professionals on vehicles arent makin them anymore they have new workers at thier factories and my cousins new yota has 150,000 and has had a few problems here and there and drives it comfortibally unlike when i bought my '85 yota new i never had any problems with it and it has 250,000 miles on it with a few problems here and there i started having problems with it when i had a little under 200k on it with the starter. i just have problems with the new foreign made vehicle makers today it just aint like the old pickups..

12. I have been waiting for a small diesel 4x4 for at least four years. The first manufacture of a small diesel pick up 4x4 will get my business. I have a Dodge 3500 W/Cummins and plan on keeping it for heavy duty jobs. I want a small pickup that gets great mileage for the small jobs; Working on fences and checking cows........

13. Working close to the sea a really well finished truck is needed.
Friend of mine had a 150 and after a few months years rust started on the undercarriage, Another colleague's Dodge was no better, rust started and when it came to sand in the system it just couldn't handle it and left us stranded more than a couple of times, so my feelings have been to hell with American. Tried Toyota but the Tundra felt so lightweight it was like driving a tin can. Settled for a Titan, great finish inside and out and for 4 years no problem, has always been a great drive, has the weight, no rust and reliable. But have been eagerly anticipating the diesel model which has been on the cards since 2006. So would certainly shift to a diesel Titan when it becomes available.

YEEEEESSS!! i drive my titan way more than my duramax and to all you AMERICANS FOR AMERICA! the nissan titan is made in Mississippi soo eat *** and the titan is really underrated mines chipped, cold air intake, flow master. turbo kit. so has a total horsepower of almost 500 so its a strong truck

15. Yes. I would love a Titan with a diesel. I have had all the 1/2 ton pickups. GM, Ford, Dodge. All had small to major issues. Can't just be my luck. I purchased my first Titan in 2004. Never had one issue. Purchased my first diesel in 2008. To many issues to name. I hate to say it, but Nissan makes a very good product. Lots of power, no problems.. I've always said, if Titan had a diesel, I would never go back to GM, Ford, Dodge. Especially a Cummings
