Just yesterday, I blogged about how perfect the weather was for this year's Diesel Power Challenge. Well, I probably should have kept my mouth shut. Day two brought gray skies, rain, and windy cold. Good thing there was a Wal Mart nearby, where I was able to buy some protective rain gear, as well as an impromptu rain cover for my video camera.
Unfortunately, the rain briefly got the better of my point-and-shoot Nikon, and created some unwanted condensation behind the lense, essentially making any picture a gray, fuzzy blob. Thanks to a strategically-placed HVAC vent in my rental Toyota Yaris econobox, I was able to dry out the camera with the heater, and get the last few snapshots of the competition.
Likewise, I vow to ask for some extra support for covering the event next year. Doing both video coverage and still photography simultaneously for the same event is essentially impossible, but I tried my best to do both this year. I hope you enjoyed what I was able to capture this year, and hope to give you even better coverage next year.
