VM Motori Swap

2.8L Jeep Conversion

When swapping engines measure twice and cut once.   Better yet don't cut at all just bolt it in.

The picture in this blog shows the motor mount from my '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ) 4.0L. The zip tie holds my gas emissions canister (which is on the way out). I am in the planning stage of this build up. The goal is to be able to bolt up a diesel engine to an orginally gas powered Jeep. The factory has done it many times before so I know its possible.  I think this conversion will go even more smoothly for a Grand Cherokee or normal Cherokee (XJ) because the motor mounts will bolt up.

The next step is locating a '93 Grand Cherokee with an AX-15 five speed manual transmission.  I noticed on my ZJ there was mounting holes for installing the hydraulic clutch master cylinder. I'll get an extra pedal when the entire assembly is swapped.

I might eat my words on this one but this will "bolt up."

I am considering a trip to the U.K. or Australia. I'll buy a bunch of 2.5L VM equipped vehicles then ship them to the U.S. Tell me if you want one. We'll have to do something about the steering box being on the passenger side.

Is this motor any good? Well....

2000-The Chrysler Voyager (non U.S.) fitted with the latest 2.5L 16 valve engine breaks 22 world distance and time speed records, including the greatest distance traveled in 24
hours on one tank of fuel 1071.24 miles.

The London Taxi  TX4 selected the 2.5L for their new vehicles.

(the i t in the web address stands for Italy)

I don't think this record will last much longer.
