Many of us had a life before diesel trucks, me included. I had many other types of vehicles before I bought my first diesel, which was going to be used to start a business. Diesel trucks are work vehicles at heart, so I thought it was fitting that I bought my first diesel to be used as a work truck. Before that I was into hot rods, which led to many project and parts cars, and a few that actually ran. So here's my life before diesel, all the cars I have owned since I was 15.
1968 Buick GS 350 1972 Buick Electra (parts car) 1972 Dodge Dart 1973 Chrysler Cordoba (parts) 1969 Chrysler 300 (stolen) 1973 Duster w/ a 383 big block and nitrous 1948 Crosley land speed car 1965 Plymouth Satellite 1988 Mustang 1987 Mustang 1986 Mustang 1973 Vega Wagon with a 350 chevy and hidden nitrous
1972 Vega (parts) 1972 Ford Courier (actually ran) 1986 Honda 1987 Volvo turbo 1988 Nissan Sentra 1986 Nissan Sentra
1986 Ford Bronco 4x4 6cyl 1974 Chevy LUV w/350 Chevy 1977 Chrysler Cordoba (which I bought in good running shape for $75) 1969 Lincoln Continental 1968 Plymouth Barracuda 1977 Chevy C-series 4x4 on 44-inch boggers 1923 T-bucket (project car--never finished) 1971 Nova Drag car 1997 Dodge Ram 3500 (diesel) 1989 Dodge D250 (diesel)
Whew!! Now the only cars I still own are the 1971 Nova and my 1989 Dodge. I think my favorite cars out of the bunch were my 1973 Vega Wagon because it had 400 horsepower and was blindingly fast, despite looking like something your grandma would drive. Heck, it even had a roof rack. Such a fun vehicle. If I were ever to buy a cruiser again, the 69 Linc would get the nod, I've never had a car get so much attention as the black 69 with the suicide doors. My least favorite car was also the 73 vega cause it overheated about 20 times during the period I owned it. One time I just got fed up and parked it an walked home. Could never figure out a way to cool off the 10:1 compression small block completley. Right now I'm happy with my Dodge, which is almost as fast as some of my mustangs, gets 19mpg in the city, and has the usefulness of a truck. Probably the best all around vehicle I've had, which is why I'm glad I got into diesels.
