“De-gassed Suburban”

Bye bye small block

I snapped this photo at a small town car show in Jacksonville, Illinois last summer...

Forgive me for the way the photo turned out, the dark of night really puts the hurts on good photography (or at least lessens the potential for it). Anyway, this late 80s, early 90s body style Suburban sported a 12-valve Cummins, which made my night to say the least. It’s always nice to see a de-gassed version of a vehicle. And even better to hear a diesel mixed in with hundreds of muscle cars, classic pickups and those little fart-can mobiles.

The owner of this crowd pleaser is a tool salesman. I had heard that it took him a full month to get the 5.9 and automatic tranny swapped in. I like seeing average guys with average jobs somehow finding time to make things like this happen. The end product is probably the result of long weekends working on building the perfect diesel-powered Suburban.
