This is a fun time in the project. We get to see what works and what doesn't, lots of surprises.

Yesterday Mike and I decided to change the transmission fluid in the '87 F-250. The old ZF didn't like 1, 2 and reverse. I think the clutch is not disengaging. This truck uses hydraulic fluid to move the externally mounted clutch fork. I don't think there is a good way to bleed it. If you have a tip sure would like to hear it.

The fluid is supposed to be Mercon II but we used synthetic since that is what we had. Next time I will loosen the fill plug befor the drain plug so it doesn't gulp, gulp, gulp as it comes out. Mike got saturated with salmon colored smelly fluid. I tried not to laugh but that makes me laugh more. Sorry dude.

Next we drove the F-250 around the parking lot. At least it moves.

I hosed it down a bit with water as to show off the Salmon and dark blue two toned paint. I want to sand down the top cab and rattle can it so it looks a little better. I think I will have to remove the chrome trim around the windshield. The original paint colors and scheme will be retained. I don't think I've seen a Ford with the top color running down the door?
In the south the bottom of the cars are rust free and the tops are rusty in the north it is vise versa. You just can't beat rust because it never sleeps.
