Project 300 is transforming from a scrap iron candidate to a reliable driver. If car manufactures stop making vehicles, will we just maintain the trucks we have instead of buying new ones?

Leaky Heater Core
Grease Packed Plug

I have been reading this book called Horseless Vehicles: Automobiles and Motor Cycles by Gardner D. Hiscox. It was written in the year 1900 and is out of print now but Lindsay Publications reprinted it. It talks about steam, hydro-carbon, electric and pneumatic motors. Back then they called their vehicles motor bicycles, tricycles, quadricycles, dogcarts, Sociables, Phaetons, Wagonettes, Char-a-bancs, busses and delivery wagons. The back of the book lists about 260 different automobile manufactures across the country. Perhaps we will go back to that? Whatever happens knowing how to fix your own vehicle is a good skill to have in times of uncertainty.

The turn signal lights didn't work. Why? I looked for clues. I found 3 burnt 15 amp fuses. This indicates a short circuit and the quick fix was keeping a box of fusees on hand. Effective but annoying. Time to track down where the electricity was escaping. It turns out the rear light pigtails were packed with grease. This caused the plug to get corroded and eventually the current jumped across the burnt grease tripping the fuse. All it took was a little cleaning up with electrical cleaner.

Next the old leaky heater core was replaced with a new one. It was easy to get at behind the glove box. Just push in the tab on the right side of the box and the glove box comes right out. Next take off the heater core cover. Disconnect the hoses from under the hood and there you go. Speaking of hoses almost all of them fuel and water were leaking on this truck. I probably should have replaced them but instead I just cut the ends off and reinstalled them.

Last weekend Mike and I drove over to see Mike Shaheen of HHOConnection.com We hooked up one of his energybuilders.net cells to the 6.9L. We just held the tube in the opening of the manifold with the air cleaner off. We were expecting a change in the way the engine ran but could not detect anything. We thought we need more gas.

I'll keep working with this hydrogen idea. Has anyone out there put a HHO kit on their IDI?
