Tonight's bivouac is at an old road race track where they used to hold international auto races. As we get closer to the finish, the more fans come out to see us. The race track is surrounded by a fence, and the racers are inside, and the fans are on the outside. Keep in mind it's 12:30 am here.
Many of the teams are still repairing their trucks. There are only two more days of racing, and people's nerves are wearing thin.
Volkswagen is down to three cars, but they are still in first and second place. I took a great video of their pit tonight, and will try to upload it to youtube.com tomorrow night.
On the way into the bivouac tonight there were an incredible amount of people in town waiting for our arrival. Though our truck is not a "race car" it has a number on the sides, and the locals assume we are racers.
When I drove in this afternoon, there were literally thousands of people lining the streets, taking our picture, waving Argentina flags, and cheering for us. One of the towns we went through even had their marching band on the side of the road, waiting to play us a song. It was crazy, and I was unprepared for how great it feels to have that many people excited to see you. I felt like Obama on Inauguration Day.
Tomorrow we head to Cordova, Argentina, where we'll spend the night in a hotel.
So this may be my last night in the Bivouac. Time to pop in my ear plugs ,VW is working on a new carbon fiber body for Mark Millers car right next to my tent.
God I'm lucky.
