A Fun Job That Few Will Do

In my previous life, I had the pleasure of driving this Freightliner for a 2-year period…

Look closely now, it wasn’t hauling milk folks! And it didn’t smell the greatest, but it was good money for a college kid. I still miss floating the gears and feeling the 3126 CAT go through its short, but strong powerband.

They’ve since added a DT466 powered International automatic to the fleet, which they say runs circles around this truck, but I’d choose this manual FL70 every day of the week, just because it was fun to drive, even with 2,800 gallons of you-know-what in the tank!

So, as you can see, diesels even dominate the ‘No. 2’ industry. A Duramax-powered Chevy, two new Cummins-powered Dodges, a Caterpillar-powered portable water jetter (Perkins), and a Caterpillar-powered (Perkins) mini-excavator round out one heckuva fleet. The fleet itself has slowly been converted to diesel and is now 85% diesel.

Oh, by the way, the FL70 even had a name, and still does: “SLURPPY”
