There are a few people that have been kicking around the idea of supercharging diesels, and yes, here's proof that it can be done.

This truck was built years ago by Piers Diesel, and is rumored to still be around.  Throttle response was unreal, and the story goes that it made 6psi of boost just while it was sitting idling.  Anybody have any more info on the truck or know where it is now??

1. Well take for example the mustags that run at the drag strip. The turbocharged ones win hands down. But poeople will still say supercharger all the way. There is one draw back to the supercharger it is call a belt that in turn will fail. I'm know it has been done on daily driven gassers that push 4 to 15psi of boost. But a daily driven diesel that pushes 25+ psi of boost time after time that makes me worry a bit. Look what is on a big rig.

AND if I right isn't someone like GReddy or Weiald or mabe Holly is coming out with a supercharger for diesel power vehciles?

2. Its not even the fact that its belt driven. The belts they make for those are tough as heck. Its that it takes power to make power and a turbo is free power. Thats what I dont like about them. So many people do like them though Because they make instant power. Unlike a turbo that has to spool.

3. Weiland makes super/turbo chargers so that's who i would go to. Check in the Summit,Jegs magazines.

4. A turbo takes power to turn as well, nothing is free. Diesels have been superchaged for as long, if not longer, than they have been turbochaged. I have worked on generators with supercharged Detroits that are 30 years old now.
For a daily driver the fuel economy would be awful, that is the biggest advantage to the turbo. The turbo is variable boost only when you do not need it.
