Which Diesels are better?

New vs Old

Last year, we took a handful of trucks on a fuel economy run to determine what kind of MPG new and old, 4wd and 2wd trucks can get.  It turns out that the newer trucks beat the older trucks, but not by much.  Matter a fact, with some slow driving, the worst vehicle achieved 23mpg while the best was 29mpg.

This got us thinking though, which vehicles are actually "better?"  Older trucks or new ones?  There are obvious pros and cons for each, with newer trucks being quieter, cleaner, and more advanced, while older rigs are louder, dirtier, and more basic.  Some categories are a toss up, such as horsepower.  While it's easy to make power with a chip, older trucks were generally cheaper to make big power with (over 500 hp).  So what's better, new or old?  Sounds like another comparision test coming up.....

...but for now you guys can chime in here!
