You ever notice how old trucks never die? They just seem to get rebuilt, reused, and resold over and over again. It’s kind of like recycling in a way—only better for our environment and economy.
Back in 2004, before I took over Diesel Power, I owned an ’84 Bronco that I must have put hundred of hours—and thousands of dollars into. I sold it when I got the job here—mainly because the Bronco had spark plugs—but there was a time that truck was my pride and joy. Now that I have 5.9L Cummins that I want to swap into something, there are times I wish I still had that ’84 Bronco...
The good news is my Bronco went on to a better home, and was turned into an off-road race truck. The new owner had the time and money to finish the truck (better than I would have) and I get a sense of pride knowing that some of my blood, sweat, and tears went into making that Bronco what it is today.
I tell you all of this because I have a very good friend in Florida named Donnie who’s selling a ’92 Ford F-350 IDI 7.3L with very few miles on it. When Donnie bought it, the truck was nothing like it is today. But after a few months of work restoring, reconditioning, and upgrading the truck to its current state, the F-350 became something more than a used truck—it became Donnie’s pride and joy.
John DeLorean (the man behind the Pontiac GTO and the DeLorean car portrayed in the movie Back to The Future) once said that in many cases when you buy a used car, you get a better vehicle than what you could buy new from the car dealership. His reasoning was that if you buy a car (or in this case a truck) from an enthusiast that loved and drove the vehicle, a used vehicle may actually be better than when it left the assembly line—because if there was a problem with the vehicle (the previous owner’s pride and joy), the enthusiast owner will fix it.
Donnie’s F-350 is one of those vehicles that’s better now, than it’s ever been. If you’re in the market for an IDI diesel truck in Flordia, give him a call.
