In-Cylinder Temperatures:

What We’re All After

If this isn’t ideal, I don’t know what is…

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could know this information about our engines while driving down the road?

After all, our EGT gauges mounted in our cabs, and tapped into our exhaust manifolds (or downpipes) are not nearly as close to the heat source as we’d like them to be, and in a perfect world—we would want to be able to monitor each cylinder’s operating temperature.

Seeing cylinder temperatures like this on a massive 1,400 ci generator, makes me a bit jealous. I wonder how much cooler the temperatures are once they make it to this engines exhaust manifold… And how much warmer our in-cylinder temps are on our trucks (especially when the EGTs are in the 1,000-plus degree range!).
