Midwest Tour ’09 Comes To An End

I bid farewell to low-traffic, non-honking, friendly folks, and diesel country today and make my way back to Los Angeles…

It was a fun trip, where vacation time gave me and my quad some much needed one-on-one time in the hills and sand-flats of Missouri.

It was also a great way to meet some influential people in the diesel aftermarket, some of diesel motorsports’ top competitors, and other diesel enthusiasts and fans.

Here’s an idea of some of the diesel fun I had:

-A 24-valve build at Scheid Diesel’s Effingham, Illinois, location.

-The 2009 Truck And Tractor Nationals in Laporte, Indiana.

-A visit to River City Diesel’s shop in East Peoria, Illinois.

-Attending a local sled pull in Carrollton, Illinois.

-Attending an ITPA sled pull in Newton, Illinois.

1. Welcome back, I'm wondering why the greatest diesel magazine in the world, headquarters are in los angeles when 95% of anything to do with diesel trucks and events are in the midwest? would it not make more sense to have an employee stationed in the center of all the diesel high performance shops? my understanding on the midwest is that it's where it all began with the built diesel trucks and where most of the new ideas are coming from. by the way, doesn't ken brubaker from fourwheeler live in the midwest? It seems like there is alot more to cover in the midwest than a bunch of lifted over priced california trucks. I am really looking forward to reading about your trip and all those bad ass shops and events in the midwest. JD

2. Yes it would be nice to have a representative of midwest to have some more of the midwest trucks in diesel power. I would like to see more midwest sled pulling coverage in the mag. Back when you did a diesel power video on best of west and east coast trucks. How about us midwest guys and are rigs we know a couple things about diesels. I don't know about everyone else but feel a little left out. I know there are some really good shops out here. Thanks for coming out to visit us Mike at least someone hasn't for got about us. I am looking forward to Scheid's article on the 24-valve build.

3. I can't help but agree with linmup and 1ton, we need an actual midwest bureau right here in the heart of the diesel world! I mean, come on, we've got it all. There are GREAT diesel performance shops hidden all over. More shops than most people realize and their just waiting for the chance to show their stuff. We have sled pulls all summer season long. The midwest simply puts "heart & soul" into the diesel community and we are willing to share. I know there are times were a simple phone call to ya guys might turn into something great, but most of us still want the face to face conversaion. Give us a "go to guy" were the smoke hits the sky.

4. I agree, the Midwest may be the most diesel-saturated area on earth. A Midwest bureau would definitely be kept busy. Maybe one day…

5. I would like to say what a asset you are for your company. It was so nice to talk to you at the jamboree to put a face with the articles I so love to read. I think it is a absolute needed thing to have something here in the midwest. You would be a nicely added piece to help bring out all the diesel shops around the area that would other wise never be noticed. We need all the coverage we can get for our sport in order to make it grow and stay strong. Coverage in cali will be short the way the are pushing to make everything green. Please give us a midwest representative.

6. Well hopefully they can work something out by next years pulling season. Diesel Power Mag. is missing out on a lot of action not being around the midwest.

7. It was good to meet some of you at the events I made it to back east. Interaction with diesel owners is the best part about my job.
