Wayne Robbins pointed it out to me and a few loyal Diesel Power readers this past Sunday at the drag racing portion of the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza.

His Super Street Ranger had transmission issues, which sidelined him for the day, but didn’t stop him from educating several enthusiasts on the beauty of a 4BT Cummins, or 6BT for that matter.

Wayne also also tipped me off on getting access to the Cummins engine facility in Columbus, so look for a possible visit to this mecca in a future issue…

1. What does this do exactly? Does Cummins or CAT for that matter, have a museum at the headquarters location for the public?

2. An air guillotine is used as an air shut-off to snuff out a turbo in case of a run-away situation (which unfortunately can happen on highly modified diesels, especially mechanical ones).

Not sure if Cummins or CAT's headquarters are open to the public, but I'm going to find out.

3. To stop Turbo runaway (nightmare), okay cool. Ive heard of 6.0L's PSD's having the turbo seal fail, the impeller shaft shear off, oil bypass the bearing and be burnt as fuel. BOOM engine. Homemade turbine. Hope my 6.0L doesnt do that ever-fingers crossed.

I always wanted to see Cummins and CAT's HQ. Wondered if it would be worth the drive.
