An Autodyn 800 series chassis dynamometer should be able to put the type of load we want on the truck, and get our boost up to its current 32 psi peak it sees on the street. While on the rollers, we’ll not only be testing out our new fuel system from the dieselsite, but also our ATS intercooler’s cooling ability even more. Let the data gathering begin…

Today will consist of changing the oil in our old Power Stroke. Fresh oil in a HEUI injection system (and possibly cetane additive) will yield the best possible results for our old Ford F-350 workhorse.

2. Awesome! The '97 Powerstroke project is my favorite one! Rust Buckets awesome too.

How much hp/torque gain did you see by adding new oil and cetane booster? What type of oil?

While on old body Fords, Id love to see a 73-97 F-350 project where you rescue gas truck and swap a 12-valve Cummins or CR Cummins in it. A Detroit Diesel would be cool too. Seen 4-53 swaps. Wonder if a 6-71 would fit?

3. Honestly, I can't tell you what the gains are for dynoing on fresh oil as opposed to old. I've always heard that after 1,500 - 2,000 miles the oil in HEUI systems yields a little less power. I just made sure I was running fresh Shell Rotella for the best possible results. Could've helped, could've been no difference, but it was due anyway.

On lower horsepower trucks cetane booster can help gain you a couple extra ponies. But I did no before and after runs on the dyno (not an additive test). I just poured in a quart of cetane booster and let the truck rip on the rollers. Can't say if anything was gained from doing either of the two, but I wanted to be prepared—and I wanted 300 hp dangit! I've seen 8-10 hp gains in a 24-valve Cummins by simply running additive though.

4. Good stuff man! Thanks for the info and responding.

What do oil should I run in my 6.0L since it also uses High Pressure oil. Its got Shell Rotella diesel specific oil in it now from the dealer, but I have been thinking of switching all oils and fluids to AMSOIL full synthetic diesel specific and what not. What do you think?

5. You can't go wrong with Amsoil's synthetic oil. The 6.0L's are a little pickier on their oil than are 7.3's. I simply run Rotella because it's what I've always used.

Some guys use Motorcraft oil too.
