One thing that’s stuck in my head is a conversation I had with Earl Stuckey at this year’s Scheid Diesel Extravaganza. Stuckey is the man behind the Redneck Nationals, an event that is typically the inaugural diesel event held early each year in the South (it was February this year).
He wondered what I thought about him opening up the event to gas-powered trucks, as well as diesels (of course). We both agreed that allowing gassers to compete would draw more spectators, competitors, and best of all: give diesel owners another opportunity to go head-to-head with (and more than likely, dominate) their spark-ignition rivals at the drag strip.
For me, the diesel vs. gas aspect never gets old. I think it’s a good idea. We’ll see what develops this off-season.
So now I’m asking, what say you? Do you prefer to see events intended for diesels, diesel? Or should gas guys be allowed to compete?
P.S. - I’m sure this particular event will remain thick with diesels because that was it’s original intention.
