With the fuel side of the equation taken care of, we’ll be looking to match the right amount of air, and oil delivery…
First up will be an Adrenaline high volume high-pressure oil pump install and test. The Adrenaline was supplied to us courtesy of DieselSite. At this time, we’ll also be installing a new injection pressure regulator (IPR) and injection control pressure (ICP) sensor as a measure of good maintenance.
From there, we’ll be looking to seal the deal with an aftermarket turbo, which should help lower EGT and make more horsepower on the dyno. Then we’ll finally have peace of mind when we start towing with this old workhorse.
A lot of turbo options exist. Some things we’ll be considering are: lag time, maximum cfm, simple drop-in or (doing the dream job) going with a Super Duty-based, ball-bearing unit. Also, picking the right turbo will include going over the truck’s future plans and whether or not we want to try a bigger set of injectors without once again needing to upgrade chargers. The wheels are spinning…
