“The most fun I’ve had all summer.” This statement was used by dozens of people (including me) regarding this year’s Scheid Diesel Extravaganza…

And after all, that’s what diesel motorsports are all about—having a blast. Scheid Diesel’s event brings out the very best this sport has to offer, year after year.

After a week of compiling photos, distances, ET’s, dyno numbers, and writing the event coverage, I’ve finally completed a list of full results for the 2009 Scheid Diesel Extravaganza. With so many good photos of all the action this year, it was hard to do the event justice with only 6 pages of magazine content. So, here are some of the photos that didn’t make it into the December issue, but by no means are any less exciting or worth showcasing to all of you. Enjoy…

dyno

Again this year, two chassis dyno’s were running pretty much non-stop on Friday and Saturday. Every year the crew at Dan Scheid’s Effingham, Illinois, location transports its Mustang dyno to the fairgrounds in Terre Haute, Indiana, for the event. Diesel Performance Motorsports’ mobile dyno was also on hand Friday and Saturday (shown here).

Burkhard 2.8

Here’s a look at Tony Burkhard qualifying in the 2.8 class Saturday afternoon…and digging a bit of a hole. He qualified 4th and finished 6th in the finals.

Wakeman/broke sled

This is a photo I will never forget taking. It’s Troy Wakeman’s first 2.8 qualifying run where either a rock or U-joint cap (or some other hard-part or debris) was kicked up, and took out the windshield on the sled (look closely).

Kusilek 2.8

Wesley Kusilek’s ’03 GMC pulled 326.07 feet in the 2.8 Class, just two feet less than Troy Wakeman’s Duramax, and three feet fewer than Matthew Williams’ Dodge.

Glover 2.6

Giving the track plenty of time to hard-pack, Kevin Glover’s Northeast Diesel-sponsored ’01 Dodge yanked the sled 334.11 feet. A heck of a pull, it was good enough for Third Place in 2.6.

K-buildings

We got a good shot of Chris Webb’s 2.8 truck slinging dirt during qualifying, which ran as the spread image in the December issue, but here’s a shot of him on his way to a 9th Place, 314-foot effort later that day.

Gainer

2009 Diesel Power Challenge contender Matt Gainer originally built his truck for sled pulling, which he proved not only at this year’s challenge, but also at last year’s Extravaganza (taking 3rd Place in Work Stock). This year Matt was in an ideal spot: he pulled 26th out of 26 trucks in the 2.6 Class finals. Long story short, he came in 4th this year with a 334.090-foot effort (just inches behind the 3rd and 2nd Place finishers).

Kusilek 3.0

Just the second truck to pull in the 3.0 Pro Stock Diesel class, Wes Kusilek’s “Homemade” Duramax pulled 283 feet (14th overall).

Tarr 3.0

Rod Tarr, part of the purpose-built and dedicated 3.0 crowd in the Illinois Tractor Pulling Association, pulled 301.05 feet in Pro Stock, good enough for 3rd on Saturday evening.

Painter 3.0

Dan Painter’s “Dirt Sling N’ II” Scheid-built, Cummins-powered Ford took top honors in the 3.0 class just inches ahead of Brad Ingram.

Pullin' To Please

The Pullin’ To Please truck, piloted by Faith Miller, kicked off the Super Stock action that night with a 311-foot run that held off eight other competitors’ efforts. She finished 3rd on the night.

Scheid Super Stock

I know it’s hard to see here, but Scheid Diesel’s own Kent Crowder is in the midst of his triple-turbo’d Cummins’ wicked, 2nd Place 319-foot finish.
