On a beautiful, 60 degree dry day over at Westech we put the 300 hp mark behind us with our ’97 Power Stroke…

Ambient air conditions were ideal for a chip shootout today, and each aftermarket chip that was custom tuned for our 7.3L Power Stroke had its way with the SuperFlow dyno over at Westech Performance. Look for a detailed write up on what we liked about each chips’ performance characteristics in the February issue.

THE RESULTS
Brian’s Truck Shop: 324 hp at 3,000 rpm
DP-Tuner: 314 hp at 2,600 rpm
Total Diesel Performance: 313 hp at 2,700 rpm
Elite Diesel Engineering: 307 hp at 2,800 rpm

*Most TORQUE:
Total Diesel Performance: 709 lb-ft at 2,150 rpm

1. Awesome stuff! You guys shoud do a head to head test of the two first gen. project trucks. OBS Ford '97 Powerstroke Ultimate Tow rig project vs. First gen. '89 Dodge
12-valve Cummins project rusty bucket.

I know there built for different purposes, but it would still be cool to see how they compare. Like a mini diesel power challenge. 1/4 mile drag, dyno, sled pull, fuel economy, how much each truck cost in the end, etc.

Would be a cool rap up to those projects IMHO.

3. The only problem I have is the "wrap up" statement. My project will never be complete. My truck is my lifelong companion.

It is a good idea though, I have to agree! Afterall, what dignity I lose getting demolished at the drag strip I can make up for towing, and in the mud. Maybe I could pull Rust Bucket out of a mud hole, or tow it to the track. We'll have to see...

I meant wrap up in terms of being in the magazine, I suppose that most truck owners never consider their rig complete. This means awesome '97 PSD articles in the mag for a long time! Love OBS Fords! I think things would equal out with each trucks strength and weakness being so drastic.

5. Ahhhh my lawnmower does 300 hp at Westech. I still think their dyno reads about 10% high. ;) Either way congrats, you've bested my 312 on fuel in old Rusty Bucket. I should have new numbers on my new setup in about a week though.

6. Actually, SAE numbers were only slightly lower. In fact, going by SAE numbers, the truck's highest reading still made 313 hp. It was more like 3.5 % high that day ;)
