Here is a list I’ve compiled of states requiring emissions testing for diesel pickups…

I figure it will be good for our readers to file away, and it’s good information to know. It’s funny how seven out of the nine states requiring emissions testing have only instituted it in high-population areas, but California has instituted it in most of (if not all) its counties, and Connecticut's emissions laws include the entire state. This makes it a royal pain to research, look up, and travel to a smog appointment if you live in a very rural area (which, let’s face it, most diesel owners live rurally). We should also note that no diesel-specific smog stations are set up yet in California (and may never be). We’ll have a whole slew of loopholes in the new CA emissions testing system in the June issue.
