We were lucky enough to bump into the truck’s owner, Mike Ontiveros, at the NHRDA event in Arizona. With the help of nitrous oxide, Mikes ’99 Ford made more than 1,000 hp on the dyno late last year. This is a milestone achievement for the 7.3L crowd. With the 6.0L Power Stroke also cresting 1,000 horsepower on spray last year, and the 6.4L quickly getting to the same mark (again, on nitrous), 7.3L gurus never gave up. It’s nice to see guys still interested in heavily modifying the dinosaur of Power Strokes—and making BIG power with them.
The truck weighs in at just under 6,600 pounds with Mike in the driver seat, too. So…on the HP calculator the truck should be capable of low-to-mid 10-second passes in the quarter-mile. Once the suspension bugs are worked out and a nice set of slicks grace the truck, we’re sure it will get there.
