Not that I plan on unloading my beloved Crew Cab. But (knock on wood), I keep having a re-occurring nightmare where it burns to the ground and I’m left with an insurance check that won’t cover half of what a new truck would cost me. Do you ever have this dream?
The options for getting into some other older trucks both excite me, and scare me, at the same time. Although I’ve never really been partial to Chevy’s, there is absolutely no denying the Duramax/Allison combination, so I’ve thought about a used LB7 (even though the injector issues with these early engines worry me a bit).
Another option I’ve pondered is searching high-and-low for a ’94 to ’98 12-valve Dodge 2500, but not only could a clean version of one be hard to find, but I’d also just be chasing after an engine—and would probably overlook a few things on the rest of the (older) truck that would soon need addressing. Ah, the power of a P-pump Cummins. Anyway…
I’ve also pondered a regular cab late ’99 to ’01 Super Duty ¾-ton or 1-ton. But then, I’m sure I could always find a standard cab version of my own truck, which is a thought that never leaves my mind.
With so many truck options and such a hard decision to make, I’ll continue to pray that my little nightmare only comes to me in my sleep. In the meantime, I’ll try to formulate a Plan B. Knock on wood one more time for me, would ya?
