Pipe Dream Puller

It Will Be Expensive, But What Hobby Isn’t?

For the last two years I’ve been on the prowl for a cheap second-gen dualie to transform into a 2.6 class sled puller…

And I’m still on the prowl—and searching for ways to fund this new obsession/hobby. But one can always dream, right? So my ideal candidate to get started would be a truck similar to the one pictured here, a ’94 – ’02 Dodge 3500 quad cab. Or if I could convince the owner of Project 24-valve to donate his perfectly running ’02 to the cause, I would use that (yeah right). Regardless, the truck would be powered by a 12-valve, P-pumped Cummins, and utilize an NV4500 five-speed transmission.

Performance-wise, I’d start small, and progress from there. In a nutshell, the 5.9L would receive a set of decent sized injectors, a 215hp P-pump for high-rpm purposes (a benched 215hp pump flowing plenty of fuel would be ideal), governor spring kit, head studs, an S400, etc…

The transmission’s input shaft would be upgraded to the common 1 3/8-inch diameter, and a dual disc clutch would replace the stock one.

I like the Dodge dualie platform for this because it will have the Dana 80 in the rear, a decent wheelbase, and of course six tires touching the ground. And due to how much these trucks weigh, I could also hang several hundred pounds out front.

It would be no monster HP maker, but it would be a fun truck to pull with at the local county fairs around where I grew up. Maybe I’ll even call it the County Fair Terror, who knows…

The dream continues…………..
