The same place featured on The History Channel’s Modern Marvels program.
It’s called Iowa 80, and it’s awesome. It’s located at Exit 284 along I-80, roughly 10 miles west of the Mississippi, in Walcott, Iowa.
As soon as you walk in the doors (on the passenger vehicle side) you’re greeted by a restored Dodge Power Wagon resting on a bunch of rocks. Then you notice a gigantic food court (Taco Bell, Wendy’s, Dairy Queen, Pizza Hut). There’s an arcade, a movie theatre, a dentist, a barbershop, a family restaurant that seats 300, and an entrance-free trucking museum.
Here are some facts I found on Iowa 80’s website:
-Main facility is 100,000 square feet in size
-Over the last 45 years the truckstop has served more than 64 million customers
-Serves approximately 5,000 customers every single day
-The hi-rise sign (pictured) sits in more than 1.3 million pounds of concrete
