It was a pretty decent year, weather-wise, for corn production. The summer weather was hot (allowing our corn to mature), sunny, we barely got any rain this October—the complete opposite of what happened last year in the Midwest, and we didn’t have to wait on moisture levels to drop in order to get in the fields. Artificial drying was at a minimum this year, too. The dry weather has continued here lately, giving farmers plenty of good days to apply nitrogen fertilizer (anhydrous ammonia) to the fields. Applying anhydrous now saves time during the busy spring, and it's a lot easier on fertilizer suppliers.
*Did you know that the U.S. produces more than twice as much corn as the Second highest corn-producing country? This is because we prep, plant, harvest, plow, and fertilize by machine (most countries don’t).
I love corn. We need it for everything. And it makes a nice privacy fence if your yard butts up to a cornfield :)
