I found this video posted on Power Stroke Nation’s website yesterday and thought I would share it…

It’s an interesting take on selective catalytic reduction (SCR, or urea injection) from Navistar’s perspective. Navistar has made it a mission to meet stringent diesel emissions standards without the use of SCR technology and this video definitely plays in their favor.

1. that's interesting. It's not the right technology anyhow, they really need to be focusing more on creating a complete burn rather than creating laws for the loopholes of the laws that people are still trying to meet.

I like how they mentioned Bakersfield, the biggest small town you've never heard of. Haha.

2. In the short term maybe water injection would be more effective for NOx reduction than SCR since more people would use it if given the choice between the two. Injecting steam from the waste heat in the exhaust is also a possible short term improvement. You could capture the water in the exhaust and re-use it so you'd never have to fill up. The military tested this in the 70's.

In the long term I agree with kingtoid the manufacturers should bight the bullet and take a risk on a new technology make the investment and take care of the emissions in the cylinder instead of hoping to catch it down the line.

4. Here is the real question for DPF equipped vehicles. "How does burning more fuel offset emmisions?"

First you must take in account more fuel will be use so natrually more will have to be made available.

Secondly more emision will be made trying to keep up with demand.

Thirdly gulf of mexico can and will happen again as we search for more oil.
