Diesel Power magazine’s first day on Route 66 began on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. We’re towing a 1968 Plymouth GTX (440 ci, four-speed, Dana 60 car) with a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9L Cummins engine.

The weather was beautiful today, and we got to soak in the sites as we picked our way down the state of Illinois on the Mother Road. Be sure to check back tomorrow, when we head to the Saint Louis Assembly Plant where Chrysler built the GTX we’re towing 43 years ago.
