At this year’s Miami Boat Show, Caterpillar Marine Power Systems debuted its new Cat C6.4 V-8 marine engine. The 3,400-rpm high-speed powerplant features common-rail piezo injection and a compacted-graphite iron block. In sea-going trim the single-turbo 6.4L engine will make 335 to 505 mhp. Production of this boat engine is slated to begin at the Marine Power Center (located in Wimborne, United Kingdom) in early 2012.
But when we saw this Cummins-Duramax-Power-Stroke killer, our first thought was “This is the Caterpillar engine diesel pickup owners have been dreaming of!”
Who among you wouldn’t swap your current pickup’s engine for this new mill--right now?
There’s no word of offering the C6.4 engine in an on-highway package or pickup, but if that ever were to happen we’d bet this is/was/would be Cat’s heavy-duty pickup engine.
