I know there are plenty of Cummins-converted Excursions out there, but what about a 6.4L being swapped in in place of a 6.0L?

This idea was brought to my attention today by someone who's thought about attempting it. Other than swapping in a Cummins, it would be a great way to have a reliable, 500 hp (tuned) tow rig that can also lug the family around. No more need for a "chase" vehicle, just load up the toy-hauler and hit the road with five friends. Starting with a Triton-powered version (for cheap) and dropping in a sourced 6.4L Power Stroke and 5R110 transmission could probably be done somewhat reasonably.

1. Seems to me that this might be a decent swap. The 6.4 seems to have a better reputation than the 2 previous engines. Off hand the cost would seem to be greater than the Cummins/Allison swap.

2. That's exactly what I was thinking! And, the TorqShift transmission has proven it can handle 500+ hp day after day in stock form.

I know the swap's been done, just trying to reel in some of those folks stories with this blog. We love out-of-the-ordinary stuff around here.

3. I was thinking about doing this with my V-10 excursion. I would love to see a story on this, and a cost break down.

4. Custom autos by Tim & modena auto works have both done it properly by grafting the body of an excursion on to '08+ trucks. It's worth checking out their websites if you haven't already. By doing the graft you get the tighter turning radius & smoother ride of the newer coilspring suspension, updated interior, larger coolers, etc. Wish I could afford/ justify one!

6. The Post that Jason put up is a guy that does these. Hes pretty good at it, Took a 6.4 and a 2000 excursion and swapped em together
