Remember last year’s Sun Coast Converters’ annual dyno day in Florida? (it was in the June, ’10 issue)…

The winner of that event was none other than Aaron (Rudy) Rudolph and his nitrous-fed 6.4L Power Stroke. After making 1,041 hp and 1,829 lb-ft he tried for a bigger, better number. Triggering the nitrous with only 10 to 15 psi of boost created a blown head gasket and a massive nitrous backfire. This photo is the result of the carnage that occurred on the gasket. Although a piston could’ve been burnt up during the endeavor, this was the extent of the carnage done to the engine that day.

The head gasket now hangs as a trophy in Rudy’s shop, along with a bent intake valve and broken rocker arm, which he broke at subsequent dates  :)
