The ’97 passed a cylinder contribution test, thanks to our new Aeroforce Interceptor gauge, which can conduct the test, along with injector buzz tests...
We even tried to run the cylinder contribution test on a cold engine, to which it reported the engine oil temperature (EOT) was not yet warm enough to perform the test. (EOT needs to be 170* F or higher on ’94 to ’97 Power Strokes, and I believe at least 135* F on ’99 to ’03 engines).
The buzz test feature is an invaluable way to tell you if something on your 7.3L is askew from the IDM to the injectors (bad UVC gasket, UVCH, connections, etc...). As expected, our ’97 passed this test perfectly as well, but we've also recently replaced everything (injectors, UVC gaskets, UVC connections, UVCH, glow plugs, glow plug relay). If something would've failed during either of these two tests, a code corresponding to the problem cylinder would've illuminated on the gauge's screen.
*While not the most ideal option for someone who owns a shop, it is extremely ideal for the novice enthusiast who enjoys knowing how well, or poorly, his engine is performing at all times, and can greatly help the self-diagnosis process with a 7.3L engine.
