Over the weekend (and prior to the tire blow out) I serviced a few items on the CRD...
First up was a fuel filter change. I went with a NAPA fuel filter (which I think might be a rebranded WIX) for $37 (PN FIL3647). Since last replacing it, the Jeep has racked up 24,000 miles, so I figured it was about time.
Next came the transmission service. Unknown to me prior to Sunday, the 545RFE automatic has a dual, internal filter system. 1) The primary pan filter for the transmission sump (PN 05013470AC), and 2) A spin on (canister style) filter for the returning fluid (PN 04799662AC). Along with 6 quarts of Valvoline ATF+4 fluid (a licensed ATF+4 brand compatible with the recommended Mopar ATF+4), I threw in a 20-ounce bottle of Lucas Oil's automatic transmission fluid conditioner (which all but equaled out to the 6.55 quarts recommended for the service). Filter, fluids and all, I got away with a $53 DIY transmission service. At 57,000 miles, I'll give it another look see around the 100K mark.
The bottom of the pan looked spotless, too. A good sign, since the Jeep's power has been bumped up a tad thanks to the 30+ mpg GDE Eco tune.
