Another Dmax?

Some new horsepower may be entering the stable....

 As much as I hate to abandon my mechanical roots, I did take a pretty good look at a Dmax that was for sale today...

 The truck is cheap, real cheap, and it has a new set of injectors.  It also has a smoked trans, JB Welded transfer case, a leaky steering box, and possibly needs some front end work due to its previous life as a tow rig for a Baja Race Team.  But hey, we like projects, right? 


Problem is what do do with it?  Ideas have ranged so far from throwing a bunch of nitrous on a stock engine to making an 18mpg tow rig, and everything in between.  And of course here in CA there's emissions to worry about.  Not that I need another truck, but I just might have one....I'll keep you all posted.

2. Do it Jason! Duramaxes are sweet! A GM truck would be a huge leap in quality over your 1st. and 2nd. gen Dodges. Personally I would hold out for a loaded, well maintained truck. Rather than a dirt cheap fixer upper, but thats just me.

Squeezed stock engine, 18mpg tow rig, whatever else you want, you've got EFI Live at your disposal. I would think the flexibility from that would make it very easy to transition between your goals for the truck. I'd call Rob Coddens for a few Dmax tunes it I had one.

I'm sure you have a "smog" guy for your CA related issues.

NV5600? Why so the truck would be slow as dirt... If nothing else besides a new Allison, a 47RE or 48RE would get the nod if it were to be a drag truck.

3. No "drag" anything....if that were the case, the engine would go in the Nova. ;)

And also, we here at the mag gotta think what is best for the readers....if I get a "smog" guy, I am telling everyone else to do the same! No can do. Gotta be legit with the legality on this one, at least when it is my own butt on the line!!

4. an nv5600 would jsut be cool to break up the allison tranny population, a manual in a dmax cant get much better

6. How many miles on it? And whats the price? I guess it will be a pretty good truck for the mag you guys dont really have a fixermax to play with so why not.
