Plastics are making their way on to our trucks. Diesel cars with plastics are already here and there will be more to come. At the body shop I used to work at only one guy could weld plastic with any luck. You have to make sure the area is clean and you're using the same filler plastic as the bumper is. At the SEMA show I saw a new way it worked awesome.
Recently the bumper on my wife's gas car exploded against a re-tread that came bouncing down the highway at us. The air silencer was dragging along with half the bumper...luckily the headlights, radiator and us were OK. I through the silencer away and poked a few holes in the bumper with a pocket knife. I then used zip-ties to hold it all together.
With this tool you can make repairs without removing the piece, which saves time and money.
They also have a wire mesh you can weld in that gives strength. They also showed me a hard plastic that turns soft when you heat it. Then you apply it to the bumper and when it cools it turns hard as a rock. You can use this stuff to add structure to the repair.
Why throw it away because one little imperfection? Fix it instead. Just don't breathe the fumes.
Mixplast is from France and they are looking for distributors.
