It's rare that we come across a diesel-specific chassis dyno. Sure, plenty of shops add all the duct work, fans, and other accessories once the dyno is installed (which works just fine), but very few shops design their facility around working with diesels. Our visit to DC Chassis Dyno in Brownsburg, Indiana, last week was an eye-opening experience...
To rid the building of smoke, a high-cfm fan pushes exhaust gases out, instead of sucking them out. This not only keeps the indoor air perfectly breathable and sanitary, but it also keeps the air entering the engine clean. Two doggie door cutouts in the garage door provide an exit for trucks equipped with conventional tailpipe exhausts, and two drop-down, high-temp duct hoses allow them to accommodate trucks with bed stacks and hood stacks. That's right, they even strap competition-built trucks to the rollers. A 2.6 Class Duramax made 913-rwhp there last week.
Inside the dyno test room, 2-inch thick sound board and extra insulation keep things quiet. And patrons are protected thanks to high-impact plexiglass windows. And, to keep everyone sane, two gumball machines (dispensing M&Ms and Skittles) are within quick walking distance from the dyno.
Speaking of dynos....we're heading back to Randall's Performance's diesel-specific dyno tomorrow to get our final numbers on Project Street-Max. I'll keep you posted on the results.
