Who Sold The Most?

Anyone curious which manufacturer sold the most heavy-duty trucks last year?

Thanks to pickuptrucks.com, we were able to obtain the following sales figures:

3/4-ton Sales

Ford F-250 Super Duty: 67,786

Chevy Silverado 2500 HD: 56,359

Ram HD 2500: 41,918

GMC Sierra 2500 HD: 27,616

1-ton Sales

Ford F-350 Super Duty: 49,698

Ram HD 3500: 35,665

Chevy Silverado 3500 HD: 19,573

GMC Sierra 3500 HD: 8,007

As you can see, Chevy outsold Ram by a considerable margin in the 3/4-ton segment, but Ram nearly doubled Chevy's 1-ton sales. This is especially important to us because we're told that more than 85 percent of Ram's HD trucks (2500 and 3500 combined) are sold with the 6.7L Cummins under the hood. By comparison, Ford customers opt for the diesel option 68 percent of the time (F-250 and F-350 combined), GMC buyers choose diesel 55 percent of the time (Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD), and Chevy buyers 45 percent of the time (Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD).

*As an FYI, Ford sold 1,854 of its F-450 Super Duty's in 2012.
