We're making a mid-year resolution to do more shootouts here at the magazine..
In addition to a 6.4L custom tuner shootout currently in the works, we're considering a custom turbo shootout too (with major emphasis on different compressor wheel styles and technology). How about back-to-back dyno runs pitting all the latest and greatest compressor wheels against each other? Maybe we can even get our hands on an infamous BatMoWheel...and put it up against the billet and off-the-shelf cast offerings...
For ease of swapping turbos, we'll probably use a Dodge as the test mule. But, what power level should the test mule be at to best relate to all of you? 600, 700, 800-rwhp? We'll probably draw the line at 600hp for the lowest testable horsepower, as the marketplace probably reflects that anyone interested in upgrading compressor wheels is beyond the typical power adders that get most modern trucks to the 500hp mark.
