Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Thought I would spread the diesel love by throwing up a blog about a neat little trick I discovered over the break. At 60psi of boost, my 95 Dodge would force oil up the dipstick tube, and blow out the dipstick due to excess crankcase pressure.
Now, it's good to have a motor that's a little loose, so that the rings don't butt ends and scar the cylinder walls under high boost and EGTs. But, having oil all over the engine compartment is no fun either. So, I tried this quick fix, a $5.99 parts store breather in the oil filler cap to relieve some pressure. And guess what? The little 1.25-inch universal breather worked, no more oil out the dipstick tube! As boost goes up even further, I am sure I'll need to address crank case pressure again, but for now, this seems to be a neat little solution.
