Just to tease us about our lack of half tons a little more, we ran across this video of some diesels drag racing in Thailand, which seems to have caught on in a serious way.
In fact, the lightweight mini-pickups are running just as quick as their US counterparts; low 9s and high 8s in the quarter mile. Weight is anyone's guess, but I'm betting their rigs are a good 2000 pounds lighter than the types of diesels we see over here in North America. Although I can't say much for the music, the action in this video is pretty good!
